Byte 
In most computer systems, a byte is 
a unit of data that is eight binary 
digits long. A single byte 
can be used to represent 28 or 256 
different values. 

A byte is the unit/number of bits 
used to represent/encode a single 
character of text in a computer 
such as a letter, number or 
typographic symbol.
