Aorta

English (en)

Aorta
The largest artery in the body –
arising out of the left ventricle
of the heart, arching leftwards
and backwards though the chest to
lie alongside the backbone.

It exits the chest through a gap
in the diaphragm muscle and
continues along the spine until
it splits into the two common
iliac arteries at the level of
the umbilicus.

Through its branches it provides
arterial blood to all the organs
of the body.
