Compress and Compression

English (en)

Compress and Compression
Alternatively called compacting,
to compress is taking one or more
files and combining them or making
them smaller by utilizing an
algorithm in a compression utility.
Commonly, file compression removes
redundancies or specific data that
is not essential. For example, a
tiny JPEG (Joint Photographic
Experts Group) for use on a web
page or putting multiple files
together in a compressed folder
called .zip, to use the files in
the folder, you need to uncompress
them.
