Yorùbá (yo)
- Ádírẹ́ẹ̀sì ìmeèlì
Decomposition: A transliteration of email address.
- Ojúlé-àpò-ìwé
Decomposition: The traditional post office mailbox is referred to as àpò ìwé, and an address is called ojúlé, which forms ojúlé-àpò-ìwé (ojúlé àpò ìwé orí ẹ̀rọ-ayélujára) — meaning the address for electronic mail. For example, consider this scenario: Fún mi ní ojúlé-àpò-ìwé rẹ kí n kọ àtẹ̀jíṣẹ́ sí ọ - "Kindly share your email address so I can write to you."
Our people traditionally use ojúlé (ojú ilé) and ojúpọ̀nnà (ojú òpó ọ̀nà) to refer to a dwelling, house, or compound, serving as an alternative to the word "address." Similar to ímeelì, the term àdírẹ̀sì is primarily understood by the literate because it is a direct calque of the English word "address." However, ojúlé adequately captures the concept and is more culturally rooted.
